enlightenment needed
IF there has been information posted here that is DEAD wrong, please enlighten us with the correct information! The City Manager SAID that the MDAC rate has been $200 a month for the past 2.5+ years, and now they are paying $500 a month. Of course, Gym also said there was an Optimist connection at the pool and THAT turned out to have NO basis in fact! Until there are confirmed facts that support those numbers, the jury is still out. Ms Gannon spoke about the benefits of water aerobics, and that may be true, but there hasnt been any proof of a consistent water aerobic program for MONTHS! There is also LITTLE evidence of many swim lessons being given from Oct-March of last year and from October 2008 thru the present, from the reviews that have been done. There is NO evidence of the $500 per month rental charge to MDAC having been paid either, but if it has been missed somehow, please fill us in as to where that revenue information can be found! In addition, there is NO evidence of the $750 per day meet pool rental fees Gym has claimed have been charged in the past. If those revenues are located somewhere else, other than the daily logs, please let us know where THEY can be found also! Education is wonderful thing! Please, educate us regarding the RIGHT numbers, and put them here, for all to see. God forbid we should ever have outright FABRICATIONS or unapproved secret backroom handshake deals regarding City businesses!

meeting with City Manager
The City Manager said today the the parents of the host swim team man the admission gates and sell concessions and heat sheets. They keep whatever monies they make so he wouldnt have those figures, but he DID say that the parents, one year, did buy some lane buoys for the pool. He wasnt clear if anything else has been put back into the pool but will check and get back with us. Admission monies apparently go into the main host swim team fund, which is used for entrance fees and other costs. WHAT other costs is not clear. When asked what is different now than 4 years ago, when he recommended closing the pool during the Winter, no rational reply was forthcoming, just something about the Council deciding to NOT close the pool at that time. When asked about the basis on which he made the recommendation to close during the Winter, to the best of memory he just relied that they asked for his recommendation and he gave one. No details about what led him to make the recommendation were offered. He said he just didnt remember, as it was 4 years ago. It was interesting to find out that businesses that are based in MS are the only ones required to have a business license. Pool rental fees are charged by the day or the event, he said, and documentation is available to support that claim. Apparently some pools, like the Jr college pool, charge by the lane, but we do NOT. He said we charge a monthly fee, and didnt know what that fee was, but WILL research that and make it public. Punch cards are a discount pass of up to 50%, in denominations of $20 each, and are good for the Fiscal Year. How many admissions one gets for that twenty bucks is not clear- 20? that would be one dollar each admission, certainly a SIGNIFICANT discount! there are also some adult swim lessons and there are records to document those lessons coming soon. All lessons are charged the same price, no matter if beginners, intermediate, or advanced. All are handled in-house and with WSI personnel, according to the City Manager. Since Columbus is a private school he was sure they HAD paid something but didnt know the exact numbers and will get back to us on that. Average revenue intake for aerobics was requested for the past 3 years was requested and is on the list of things to be done, and published. he wanted it made clear that it would take a little time to find and present this information to interested parties. He also said that a fully comprehensive and thorough report on the pool operations was being prepared even as we speak, and will be presented to the Council Monday night.

pool exposure needed
Did Gorland actually say last night that there IS a contract with MDAC and that they write checks directly to the City? I have it in my notes but will need to see it in the video again to be sure. If that is true, where is that money reflected? What about the water aerobics program? Is it still a viable and ongoing program? What are the charges for that program, if its still viable and functioning? Dotson wants and needs details to investigate this situation fully. Those who have those details might want to contact him via email or phone. All info will be checked out for accuracy, of course, but only once the details have been fleshed out and verified can the investigation into this, yet another city disaster, take its natural course. The GMAC meet says specifically that the $1100 was paid in cash from the concession stand. No other monies were noted or received, apparently, for pool rental, heet sheets, or admissions. If monies WERE received, but not documented, WHY are they NOT documented? Where are they reflected? If monies were NOT received, WHY NOT? We charge even taxpaying Springs residents SOMETHING to use the pool- why would we allow nonresidents to use it for free? Something smells here.

rental records?
What date was the pool party? Records so far only go from Sept 31st thru Nov 15th. Shows rentals on Oct 6th for (192.60) and (192.60). Also on that day is 246 cash, ck #1741 for 152.60, a check # 3857? for 152.60 again, ck # 5127 for $80, and ck # 516 for $80. Total tendered was $791.20. Total payment was the same. The swim team was whited out and 4 areobics were noted, but not charged for. At the bottom was itemized as MDAC as 58, Springs 19, Columbus 21, and Reagan the rest, I guess. Do we charge lap swimmers? Are they supposed to be residents? Do they pay a daily fee? a monthly fee? a yearly fee? if so, where is that reflected? The only other rental seen is $53.50 on 10/4/08. There was an additional $ 30 lane rental noted 10/16 and paid in cash. Also on 10/16 was 12 swim lessons but no charges, or payments. 63 swim team but no charges or payments noted- Springs 11, MS Middle 12, Columbus 21, MDAC 19 that day. Oct 21 notes 88 swim teamers- MS middle 14, MDAC 28, Springs 13, Columbus 17, Reagan 16. $125 was noted under swim lessons, even tho 9 swim lessons were noted. Again, NOTHING for the swim teamers, like they didnt exist. More accurately, any pool rentals were NOT charged, and didnt exist. The swimmers WERE definitely there, theres good documentation of that. Where is the revenues? If it all goes thru GYM, then maybe he can answer this. Who is in charge of making sure their numbers are accurate? Whoever it is, isnt doing their job. Period. Case closed. Another fiasco by City officials. Where does THIS buck stop?

pool audit needed
One of the Objectives listed for the Aquatics Division is to increase marketing efforts to M-D County swim teams for additional swim meets. In that area it appears they have been VERY successful, as there have been MULTIPLE swim meets this year. They should have NO problem marketing our pool for swim meets because swim meets at OUR pool are FREE, apparently. Revenues are listed as down 48.8% for the swim team and water polo teams to $2150 for this year. At the standard rate of $165 an hour ONE weekend meet would bring in THAT amount! Fiscal Year 2006-07 indicates a total loss of $303,214 and a loss of ONLY $260,985 is projected for this year. Swimming pool admissions are projected at 47k this year and its reasonable to assume that over 90% of that income is realized during the Summer. Does anybody know how much we get from resident admissions from Sept-June? WHY are we NOT charging the standard fees charged at any other pool in town OR at least OUR COSTS for these meets? Why are the residents paying for FREE swim meets? year-round practice for 6 Springs kids? Why are there NO CONTRACTS? What do the scuba guys pay? Why cant we get any answers? Do we at LEAST have a contract with Dade Co schools to host the MSSH swim team? the MS Aquatic Club? How active is the Senior Water Aerobics Program, and what revenue is realized there? So many questions, so few answers....
