Dumpster makes energy pellets

A small Massachusetts company called IST Energy just started demonstrating a large dumpster-sized machine called the "Green Energy Machine" that turns bags of trash into pellets that can be converted into useful energy.

Remember the recent Discovery Channel plasma gasification coverage? The Green Energy Machine follows in that vein. Trash goes in, gets ground up, dehydrated, and made into tiny pellets that are then converted into gas for energy. That gasification step is cleaner than just burning trash and reduces the need to truck around the waste. The company's founder says that his company estimates a 13-pound bag of trash is actually worth $5 and hopes to ultimately get GEMs to schools, hospitals, and other institutions.
