more and more curious
How many TRULY ethical businesses invoke their Fifth Amendment rights to NOT reveal anything that may tend to incriminate them, when asked for something as simple as a roster? While it IS every Americans right to NOT incriminate themselves, how many ethical and honest businesses invoke that right? If there IS no incriminating evidence, why dont they just prove it? Gorland says hes pretty sure there are more than a handful of Springs kids on MDAC, but when asked where he got that information from, has NO reply. If he saw it on a MDAC roster, how many Springs kids were on it? How did he know how many were Springs kids? How recent was that roster? Since he has already told a resident that the number is in the single digits at times, what times would that be? Averaged out over three years, which was the City Managers idea to allow for seasonality, it should be easy to determine a verifiable average count. Gorland could easily get the roster, as could Gym, but they wont. Is it because they are afraid of incriminating themselves? Proving yet another fabrication? It just gets curiouser and curiouser. Gym told a resident he would ask the MDAC owners for a roster for the past three years, to average out seasonality- has THAT been done? If so, where is the roster? If it WASNT produced, what explanation was offered? Or were they hiding behind their Fifth Amendment rights as American citizens to NOT to provide information that may tend to incriminate themselves? It IS their right, of course, but they may lose a LOT of credibility as honest and ethical people in the process.

trust, but verify
Daily logs for the past ten days or so are not available now. The documentation has been EXCELLENT at times, and incomplete or entirely absent at other times. Is management somehow discouraging good documentation now? If they were, what would they be hiding? If the coach who said he paid $2 a swimmer per day to use our pool for practice is right, consistently under-estimating and under-documenting the numbers of actual swimmers six days a week could leave a significant amount of cash unaccounted for, no? Same with admissions, but on a lesser scale. We are pretty sure the Rip Tide monies made it into the city accounts, but of course need to verify those revenues anyway, just as a matter of good business principles. The same will be required of the City Manager for the MSSH, Columbus, Reagan HS and MDAC monies that were supposedly paid to the City over the past 2-3 years. Trust, but verify. It just gets more and more curious.

curiouser and curiouser
City Manager assured residents present that ALL required sales taxes were paid. It really starts to get curious when he was asked to break down his reported expenses and revenues to see where those lump sums were derived. He said he couldnt do that that because he didnt have access to those numbers and didnt remember them off the top of his head. When asked for a month-by-month breakdown of the expenses and revenues he said they didnt exist- because the Council had never requested that he do in that way! He DID show us a 6-month report that he said he gets on the pool with all the details, which he says he reviews VERY carefully, but couldnt make available to anybody else, for some reason. Are these the very numbers he says DONT exist? It is very curious that he stands by his annual lump sum numbers but has NO idea how those numbers we derived, or even if they are accurate! He seems to trust that they are accurate, but has NO factual basis on which to base that opinion!? It is even MORE curious when he shows us a report on the pool details but then denies it exists, as a source of information. He is a very detail-oriented person and likes to control every aspect of the City operations- but has NO information or knowledge about the breakdown of pool expenses or revenues???? after showing us that very report? VERY curious, at the VERY least.
