political comedy
It was almost comical last night to see all the politicos jumping suddenly on the, "We really wanted the people to vote all along" bandwagon last night. Dotson is the only one who has espoused this cause all along. If they truly believed that the people should vote on all BIG issues they would have had the people vote on the new gym. Billy is on record as saying he didnt think that was necessary in that case, but gave NO cogent reasons for his conclusion, as usual. Youngs said he didnt want to bring it up to a vote until the boundaries were clearly established. IF that were true, and its very doubtful, why isnt he, and the rest of them, on record as saying that all along? Not a peep, up until now, as if they could slip this one in too, like the new gym, they would have. If you havent had a chuckle today, watch the Comcast video of all the politicos scrambling and backtracking to spin themselves into a good position. One even said the Council CHOSE to allow the people the right to vote! Bullfeathers! The annexation petition FORCED them to allow it because otherwise, it would never have happened!

area 9 concerns, part 2
What ARE the exact boundaries of area 9? I am under the impression that the MIC will bring NO taxable value to the owners, is that correct? If so, and the car rental places, train and bus terminals will be IN the MIC, what will be left? Warehouses? What are the development plans for that area? does anybody know? Residential? Condos? Low-income housing? Office buildings? Parking garages? Are there pollution concerns there? Who will keep zoning control? County planners should let us know BEFORE we vote, not after. The MS Council SHOULD ask, if they were really doing any due diligence. Apparently they think "due diligence" somehow doesnt fall into their job description because they havent done any recently. Billy is ruling by decree, HIS decree, and somehow doesnt need to look at all the possibilities BEFORE deciding. He summarily ruled out refurbishing as an option for the gym and has NOW decreed that pollution, zoning, mitigation fees, and accurate revenue numbers are irrelevent to him, as they could possibly hinder his vanity-filled legacy projects.

boundaries
VG is supporting MS if we want Area 9, which they dont want and have no prudent claim on anyway. In return for their support for a property they dont want and cant get? all they want is BOTH sides of 36th street? If VG has done their due diligence then why are they pushing MS to move BEFORE we have done ours? has VG considered the mitigation fees? possible pollution? zoning concerns? at last count 9 commissioners arent in favor of annexation? I havent heard ANY of these issues mentioned by the VG people. In return for the valuable (?)support for Area 9 we should support them developing the old Cisco area along 36th street. It makes just as much sense and is just as valuable. In return for OUR valuable support of the Ciscos area all we want is both sides of 36th street. Boundaries are just one of the major issues.
