chickens come home to roost

All of those Council members who have voted in the past to spend outrageous and unnecessary amounts of money on various city projects will be hard-pressed to explain them to the people over the next couple months. Those who have refused to monitor and supervise the City Manager will find it difficult to explain WHY they didnt take that obligation and elective responsibility seriously. If they have no clue as to what they are supposed to be doing, they should be replaced. If they have an idea, but were just too lazy, they should be replaced. If they know what their elective responsibilities are, but just DONT CARE, they should be replaced. If they know what they should be doing, but dont do it because it interfers with their personal or political agendas, they should be replaced. In these times of recession and instability we can no longer afford to have clueless, lazy, unconcerned, or overtly ambitious representation that ignores the wants and needs of the residents. Raising taxes and fees, borrowing millions in a recession at high interest rates to build a new multi-million dollar gym that the people didnt even get to vote on is but one example of a Council out of control and out of touch with what the people want and can afford. They stopped listening a LONG time ago.

pool mis-management continues

Mr Gorland says he has no way of knowing how many admissions there are and that the numbers listed are just estimates. After FORTY YEARS they dont have a system in place to track admissions? Thats just unbelievable, and I dont believe it. There ARE some controls in place. As the DIRECTOR, shouldnt he KNOW that? If the controls are not being utilized properly it is HIS JOB to insure sufficient controls ARE put into place, and utilized properly, right? LOTS of cash disappeared at the golf driving range too, another cash business of the City - is that whats happening here? What business would run with only an estimate of the revenues that are being taken in? talk about incompetency! ineptitude! incredibly poor management! How many more ways can be found to describe this total and complete failure (at the very least) to manage our pool facility responsibly?

mismanagement

Education does not GUARANTEE success any more than experience does, of course. It DOES provide a theoretical foundation from which to build and increase the liklihood of success. Smart managers ask those in the field for answers to fill in their gaps in their experience. Why hasnt the City Manager consulted with Skip Reed, who is a licensed contractor, on these construction projects? He knows that the usual and customary new construction costs in Dade County are $125 a square foot. Why doesnt the City Manager? Assistance in determining those appropriate costs are a phone call away. No calls on the CC project? the bathrooms? Why not? Ineptitude has lost the number? Why would he allow us to be charged $400 a square foot? $600 a square foot? To have that resource available and not use it is criminal/incredulous.

Other "managers" hide, disguise, misrepresent, and delay information that might embarass them with its ineptitude and outrageoous costs. It seems we have one of the OTHERS.
