Dotson commentary

Exactly what functions of Mayor do you think that Mr Dotson CANT handle? He has had plenty of energy to perform his Council functions so far- what other demands are there? He is the ONLY one to ask the difficult questions that need to be asked, particularly about the budget, because that is his area of expertise. He has forty years+ of accounting experience and can guide us thru these difficult fiscal waters. He KNOWS when numbers just dont make any sense, and has the gumption to ask why not, when they dont make sense. His extensive experience with budgets will be invaluable next year when the full effects of this extensive-and-deepening recession/depression hits. His opponent has NONE of this background or experience to offer. He is the right man at the right time for THIS job in THIS town.

pool incident alternatives

This should be relatively easy to confirm or deny. Perhaps a FOI regarding any complaints on file about the new Director would do the trick? Are their complaints in writing? They have to report it to the police, if its true, because if they dont it will just get worse and include more and more people. Make a police report so they can investigate. Thats their job. Or call Paul Dotson. He has looked into pool improprieties in the past. Bob Best has teenaged daughter too. Their numbers are found at the city website or in the local directory.

education is a wonderful thing

Is it possible that the Mayor is the President of the Optimist Club? or some executive type that could have made one of those secret, handshake deals with the City Manager, without anybody else knowing it? A deal that could miraculously pop up sometime in the near future? The Mayor and Council got the same memo the resident got, with the same claim. Perhaps they just didnt bother to read it. Perhaps an email to the Mayor and ALL the Council informing them of this claim by the City Manager would be in order so they can be fully informed and take the appropriate actions to straighten this situation out. I am sure they will do the right thing, once it is brought to their attention, or at least Mr. Dotson will.

unanswered questions

In the final analysis, yes, whoever received that money is whats important. It would also be good to know if the KIDS paid those monies, or their parents, as parents can be reliable and believable witnesses. Whoever received that money should be able to account for it with receipts, deposit slips, and or bank statements. Or not. If these monies were collected by different people at different times, a work schedule of who was working on which days needs to be produced so the admission fees can be matched with whoever was working that day. Is there somebody at the pool who is responsible for collecting the days receipts and giving them to Patti Bradley, so she can document what was received? Would that be the Pool Manager? Who? Were the meet admission fees also paid by the parents in person? or by the swim club? It is also curious that people were charged admission fees for meets at to OUR pool, and we received NONE of those fees! Apparently none were recorded for either daily practices OR meets! Yet at least one swim coach says that admission fees were paid. Why would a swim coach NOT tell the truth? Wonder if the same information is accurate for the water polo team? Mr Dotson needs to look into ALL of this.

now is the time for action

Those who would like an investigation of the pool operations need to contact Mr. Dotson or post your information here so it can be relayed to him by the resident. Numbers will be checked for accuracy, of course, against FOI numbers and information currently in hand. Several outstanding questions remain about how the pool operates- for instance, who receives punch cards, how are they bought, in what dollar value, and how are they accounted for? Are they issued to swim team memebers? Scuba? Polo? Who?

need Dotson duplicated

There are several people in the community who want, need, and have come to expect Mr Dotson to stand up for them against the ineptitude, egos, personal agendas, ambitions, and/or corruption going on in our town. He has gladly, selflessly, and willingly taken up the regular resident's battles on numerous occasions and spoken for them, becoming the people's champion in the process. Perhaps he has set the bar too high, as even batting champs strike out sometimes. He HAS listened. A review of the Council video tapes for the past year or two will testify to that. MORE like Dotson is what we need.

thinking positive

In the spirit of complimenting those who are serving us well, I would like to compliment Paul Dotson as a beacon of light and common sense in a cesspool of small town politics, pettiness, and blind ambition. He is frequently the only voice of reason in a chorus of fiscal insanity. "Its hard to soar like an eagle when you are surrounded by turkeys" - anonymous
