Council meeting recap 1-12-09
Council spent 30 minutes tonight trying to decide whether furniture actually resides in a home, or not. Tex said it is tough to decide whether furniture and goods are new, or not, which is probably true. Stuff with tags on it are new; so are stuff in cartons or boxes. A couple residents seem to be running businesses out of their house, in garage sales. 99% are following the rules altho as things get worse it wouldnt be surprising to see people do more and more garage sales to keep food on the table and the lights on. Several points were made by a resident regarding the pool and its operations. More discussion is scheduled on the zoning variances of the new gym next time. Billing quarterly for stormwater and trash will save the City 20k. Billing every 2 months will save 14k. A letter was sent to the Council regarding the Optimist connection to the swim team apparently, but wasnt revealed to the public. Thats a letter that needs to be public. The Corradino Group was hired to rework the figures and the annexation bid for 11k. The circle at Bluebird is a county project, and will include landscaping and pavers. Firefighters requested circle be stopped because its hard for their trucks to go around that circle. Dotson requested shuttle numbers. Twenty bids were received to be the Field Engineer on the new gym project. LINK is working on adjustments to the new gym project that will meet code.

Dotson da Man
Looks like the Council will focus on this issue of the complaints by the young ladies next time, as it has several implications regarding pool operations, management actions, possible legal complications and city policies. Mr Dotson is looking into it seriously and will ask the pertinent questions. In the meantime there are several FOIs needed requesting billing invoices and verified deposit slips from MDAC, the high schools, and the middle schools. THAT should illuminate some things!

pool operation to be focus
It will be interesting to see if the Mayor and Council are concerned at all about the Optimist fabrication? The Mayor is a longtime Optimist, what was HIS reaction to hearing about this fabrication? WHY didnt he speak up ? Are they even aware that the numbers posted on the City website make NO sense when compared to the revenues they SAY they took in? not even close. Are they aware or concerned that the pool was NOT being rented along the guidelines they set out? Are they aware that the nonsensical explanation offered by the City Manager for renting it for $200 a month to encourage Springs swimmers, does NOT affect the money the swimmers pay IN THE LEAST? THEY still pay the same amount, only the swim team benefits by the $1100 a month discount. That comes straight out of the residents pockets into MDAC's pockets. Have they ONCE asked the City Manager for verification of the pool revenues? Or ANYTHING about the pool? Did they approve that $200 a month rent for MDAC? If so, WHEN was that approved? On WHAT grounds? Did they just take that nonsensical explanation without ANY discussion? debate? WHAT were they thinking? Were they thinking AT ALL?
